Bobbi Brown is the queen of all-things makeup and beauty. While she walked away from her makeup empire close to three years ago, she still houses all of the beauty knowledge we’ll ever need (flip through her book, Everything Bobbi, for proof).

When we asked the beauty maven for her most-used and trusted way to use makeup to look younger, the answer was easy: define your eyes.

Step one, and perhaps the most important, involves a makeup staple Brown relies on: a concealer one shade lighter than your foundation. “Use it to brighten under the eyes,” she says, explaining the one area we cannot forget about. “Don’t forget to apply to the innermost corner of the eyes where eyes can appear the darkest and most recessed.”

Our favorite concealer of the moment: Benefit Cosmetics Boi-ing Cakeless Concealer ($22), which doesn’t settle into fine lines around the eyes.

Next up is liner, which she says will help eyes stand out. “Always remember to apply eyeliner from the innermost to outermost corner—lining only half of your eyes will make them look smaller,” she explains. “Then follow up with two coats of an uber-black mascara for an instant ‘lift.’” For a liner that won’t smudge before lunch, try Bobbi’s Long-Wear Waterproof Eyeliner ($32).

Last but not least, brows. “They are the frame for your entire face and will immediately enhance your eyes.”
