Hair guru Christophe Robin is known for his amazing color, celeb clientele and a results-driven product line. He’ll be the first to tell you his shampoos are “serious” (they’ve been around since 1999 and all the products are made in a skin care lab) and you’ll never see him introducing a styling product. His opinion: They look good for a second, but then make your hair “fall like a soufflé,” while having the more sinister side effect of being bad for your scalp .
His philosophy may not be standard, and neither is his new concept for a pop-up salon , hitting New York this Friday for a limited time. The idea: Have clients come in, consult with Robin and his team on color and hair health, test products and have their hair washed—for free, similar to how he runs his popular Paris salon. (The wash is free and dryers are available; proper blowouts are an extra charge, but rumor has it that it’s pretty reasonable.)

Robin’s thinking is that no one is really doing the whole “try-before-you-buy” step for hair products, which has come so commonplace when selecting skin care and makeup. He says there’s no pressure to buy, but he is convinced you’ll come back to purchase the products once you see how healthy you hair is after using. The salon also offers “discovery-size” products to take home and access to pre-order Robin’s latest launch, which won’t be available in Sephora until June.
The pop-up is only open until April 21 and is located at 42 Hudson Street in New York.
