This Simple Makeup Trick Looks Like a Snapchat Filter on Your Face

Makeup trends are forever changing. “We went through decades of makeup where women wore cat's-eye liner, made their eyes just like Twiggy's, blue eye shadow, black lipstick and body glitter,” says makeup artist Vanessa Ungaro of LAUREN+VANESSA. “Then, enter the 2000s, where all of a sudden women were slowly going for the no-makeup makeup look or just no makeup at all.”

Today, Ungaro says, it’s no secret that contouring is all the rage, and she sees clients of all ages trying it out, including a big amount of brides requesting it for their big day. “They love the process!” And, even if you think you aren’t skilled enough to do it successfully, Ungaro says it really is easy for anyone to master.

Her simple trick: First, take any light shade (you can use a contouring kit or a highlighter, her favorite is Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder for highlighting, setting and bronzing) and apply it across the bridge of your nose. “Then, take any darker color and apply it in the hollows of your cheekbones—you want to apply enough so you almost look like a warrior,” Ungaro says. “Then, the secret is to use a beautyblender ($20) and blend it all together to match your skin tone. Voila! You're walking around like you have a Snapchat filter on your face.”
