Genius New Plate Invention Promises to Cut Calories From Your Meal

As far as weight loss goes, there are a couple of plate tricks out there. The most popular one? Using a smaller plate to trick your brain into thinking you’re eating more food than you actually are. But as anyone whose brain has also told them “I’m still hungry. Seconds please,” knows, that’s not a trick that always guarantees results.
But there’s a new plate trick out there, and this one actually is proven to help you cut calories every single time. A new invention, jointly created by ad agency BBDO Bangkok and the Thai government, soaks up excess grease and oil from the food that sits on top of it. The product, aptly named the AbsorbPlate, is designed similarly to a sponge: About 500 perforated holes on the surface of the plate soak away oil from the food and onto the bottom of the plate, in the process cutting out, on average, 30 calories per dish.

According to the promotional video, the plate was invented to address Thailand’s obesity problem, which is attributed to cooking heavily with oil. The product is currently only available in Thailand, but you can bet we’re counting down the days until it makes its way here.
