Angie Harmon Shares the Secret to Her Perfect Figure

Actress Angie Harmon is known for playing tough female characters on TV—ADA Abbie Carmichael on Law & Order, and her current gig, detective Jane Rizzoli on TNT's Rizzoli & Isles. But, although she embodies many of those leading ladies' attributes, she's also got a fun-loving, nurturing side off camera. At 43 years old, the mother of three and UNICEF ambassador says she feels the best she's ever felt. Here, we get the inside scoop on everything Angie from the star herself.

NewBeauty: What beauty tips have you learned from being on camera for so many years?
Angie Harmon: A lot of makeup is not necessary.
NB: What are your never-fail beauty products?
AH: I don’t like to wear a lot of makeup, but when I do, I try to keep it minimal. Bobbi Brown Tinted Moisturizer: The coverage is amazing, but still light, and the smell is fantastic. Clinique High Lengths Mascara: The wand is my favorite because it really separates and lengthens my lashes. Armani eyeliner, any color. And bareMinerals Stroke of Light Eye Brightener is a necessity.
NB: What do you teach your three daughters (Finley, Avery and Emery; pictured below) about beauty ideals in today’s selfie-obsessed world?
AH: Rule #1: Beauty shines from within. Rule #2: Stay a kid as long as you can, even in adulthood. Rule #3: Keep your tongue in your mouth.
NB: How do you incorporate anti-aging into your skin care routine?
AH: I get facials and I have a skin care line in development that I’m tremendously excited about because it REALLY works.
NB: You’ve always been in great shape. What does your typical fitness regimen include?
AH: I don’t have one except for running to the gate at the airport. I do have a very healthy diet and try to be mostly sugar-free, and now I'm also trying to be gluten-free.
NB: What do you like to do when you’re not working?
AH: Anything with my kids.
NB: Your show Rizzoli & Isles, on which you play a Boston police detective, is set to conclude after its next season. What future projects are you working on?
AH: I’ve had many offers and I'm incredibly flattered, but first I’m going to take a little bit of time off to be with my daughters and I might work out.
NB: What’s your personal motto?
AH: Like attracts like.
NB: At what age did you feel at your very best?
AH: Present day…I’ve grown up and I truly enjoy and am proud of the person I’ve become.
NB: What one beauty trend would you never try?
AH: A spray tan.
