As I celebrated the New Year, I knew I was gearing up for a massive breakout to bring in 2016. The time off left me eating too much junk food and not drinking enough water, and with so much extra time on my hands, I went to the crazy place with trying out too many new skin care products (yes, it’s a thing…I think), that I knew my sensitive skin was just waiting to get back at me.

As luck would have it, that first week back also brought in Kate Somerville’s EradiKate To-Go Acne Treatment ($22) across my coworker Carolyn’s desk. She asked me if I wanted to try them and I passed, simultaneously jinxing myself and angering whatever powerful energy looks over the pimple gods.
The next morning, I woke up to a serious breakout: It was big, painful and absolutely impossible to cover up. I high-tailed it into work and made a beeline for these Q-tip–looking spot-treatment sticks I had so shamefully ignored the day before.
I snapped one open, and applied the pink-colored part directly on my pimple. Yes, they smell like sulfur (they contain a pretty high 10-percent concentration of it, in addition to AHAs, and when you snap the one end, the solution comes down to the other end for easy application), but I’ve smelled much, much stronger acne medications and washes and I wouldn’t necessarily tag this one as super potent. It leaves behind a bit of a pinkish tint, but it’s not that obvious and I was able to wear it over makeup without anyone noticing. That night before bedtime, I snapped open another one and dabbed it onto clean skin. By that next morning, the pimple was totally dried up and it disappeared about two days later—which is definitely not the typical lifecycle when I am sporting a blemish this big. Seriously, these tiny magical sticks are worth stocking up on.
