In the world of beauty, few things are truly long lasting. A haircut needs to be refreshed every six weeks, a manicure replaced every six days, and lipstick reapplied every six hours—if you’re lucky.

Unfortunately it’s not a different story when it comes to many fillers and injectables. With some filler results lasting only months, the amount of upkeep required and recurring costs associated with repeated treatments have led to the what many call “filler fatigue.” In other words, beauty consumers are tired of temporary, short-term fixes.

When Bellafill® first got the FDA’s stamp of approval in 2006, it sought to solve that problem. The collagen filler contains microspheres that instantly smooth nasolabial folds (smile lines) and then works to support the body’s natural collagen production long term, so the results last. And now the company is able to prove for exactly how long.

Today, Suneva Medical Inc. announced that after a five year study—the largest and longest prospective dermal filler study ever conducted—Bellafill® is now the only FDA approved dermal filler with demonstrated safety and effectiveness through five years. Over 1000 patients across the U.S participated in the study. No treatment-related serious adverse events (SAEs) or unanticipated adverse events were noted. On the flip side, 83% of patients treated with Bellafill® were still “satisfied” to “very satisfied” with their results at the conclusion of the five year study. Those are numbers that speak for themselves.

The study however, isn’t just simply a validation of Bellafill®’s product effectiveness, but also a step in helping both physicians and patients understand and feel secure about what they’re injecting into their faces.

“Injection-based cosmetic treatments and the expansion of the dermal filler market have established a strong need for data that demonstrate the outcomes of these products over time,” says Nicholas L. Teti, Jr., Chairman and Chief Executive Officer at Suneva Medical.

“The demand for injectables is rapidly increasing and this [type of clinical study] supplies data that allow physicians to use the filler with confidence,” adds Dr. Steven Cohen, F.A.C.S. and clinical professor at the University of California, San Diego.

In a time when beauty trends come and go quickly, a product that can last and look great for five years is something to be recognized.
