Are You Applying Your Perfume Wrong?
By Alison Abbey, Special Projects Editor |
We’ve been known to spend a fortune on fragrance, so why not do the due diligence to make sure you’re spritzing correctly? Follow these simple tips to take full advantage of your eau de toilette.
Location, Location, Location
Just like anything else, finding the right location is key. In the case of fragrance, it’s all about the pulse points. Apply your favorite scent to your wrists, the nape of your neck and inside your elbows. Since perfume reacts to your body temperature, these spots will maximize your scent and make it last longer.
Perfume clings to moisturized skin, so don’t spray it on dry. If you have a fragrance set, use the scented lotion before applying the accompanying fragrance. If not, use an unscented lotion or Vaseline to give your perfume something to hold on to. Applying perfume right out of the shower is also a great way to allow the scent to really soak in, just make sure you lotion up first.
Selecting a fragrance that matches up with your body’s natural oils and pheromones not only increases the mileage of your perfume; it makes it uniquely you. To find the best essence for yourself, sample a few fragrances. See which mixes best with your own musk and which stays on your skin the longest. You’ll know the winner when you smell it!
