Makeup Artists Reveal Their Favorite Foundations for Summer

After spending months impatiently awaiting all the activities that come with warmer months, the last thing we want to worry about is our makeup melting off of our faces. Sure, the best solution would be to skip the makeup altogether, but for many of us, going barefaced just isn’t an option. That’s why we asked these celebrity makeup artists for their top foundation picks, so we can enjoy those barbeques, picnics, beach days and so on fresh-faced. Paired with these waterproof makeup picks, you can't go wrong.

1. glōŸminerals Protective Liquid Foundation—Matte II ($34)
"Liquid foundations can be a recipe for disaster in the summer, unless you are wearing a matte formula,” says celebrity makeup artist Kate McCarthy. “This one is great if you are attending an outside event, or just want extra coverage at the beach. I like to put a pea size amount of the foundation and a half pea size amount of a primer on the back of my hand, mist the two, then mix with my texture brush and apply.”

2. Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer SPF 20 ($43)
“A great foundation tool for the summer is a tinted moisturizer,” says celebrity makeup artist Aura Schwartz. “This one by Laura Mercier is my favorite! It gives you light coverage and smooths out your complexion. It also has an SPF of 20 to protect you from harmful sunrays.  For someone who must have something covering their face, this is the way to go with out overdoing it.” It's also available in a portable compact.

3. Jouer Luminizng Moisture Tint ($38)
“For the summertime you want to keep your makeup light and that includes foundation,” says celebrity makeup artist Desirae Cherman. “Too heavy of foundation will melt off and make you look blotchy and too made up. A tinted moisturizer will even out your skin tone and give you a little bit of coverage. Jouer’s Luminizing Moisture Tint is amazing if you want that dewy, glowy summer skin.” Read what one NewBeauty editor has to say about the matte version: Jouer Matte Moisture Tint.

I have used Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer for years and love it. Try a little of their prep first (especially the radiance for night) and then the tinted moisturizer. I get so many compliments.
