Ombre Hair Color Just Got Even Easier

If we’ve learned anything about hair trends over the past couple of years, it’s that ombré hair color is here to stay, and dare we say it, is even more popular than ever. Though, we think it's better dubbed as "vacation hair" where the transition of color is subtle and more natural-looking. Either way, with little-to-no maintenance required and celebrity fans like Rihanna (wearing the look as recently as this year's Grammy Awards), Jessica Alba, and the style's original trendsetter—Drew Barrymore, we can see why. Especially now that achieving the look has become even easier. That’s because you can now do it from home with the L'Oréal Paris Féria Wild Ombré kit ($13).

The kit includes a lightening powder, a lightening crème, a crème developer and a patented expert ombré brush. It also comes with instructions to help you create the look you want, whether it’s subtle or dramatic. All of this can be done in about 25 to 45 minutes depending on the intensity you want. It also comes in three different shades—medium to dark brown, dark blonde to light brown and light to medium blonde.

The key to ombré is where you start it. "Ombré looks good when it's further away from your face,” says L’Oréal Paris Global Consulting Hair Colorist Christophe Robin. “Start a little more than mid-way down the hair shaft in line with your mouth." If you have short hair, start at your cheekbones.

So if you’ve been longing to try the look, but would rather skip the salon and just do it at home, this kit is for you. Just keep in mind that even the most simple DIY hair kits can still be a challenge for novices.
