Greener Getaways on the Rise
By NewBeauty Editors |
According to a 2012 TripAdvisor survey of 700 U.S. travelers, eco-friendly vacations are on the rise. "Green initiatives are an increasing priority for hospitality businesses that are trying to reduce their environmental footprint," says Jenny Rushmore, director of responsible travel for TripAdvisor.
Results showed that 71 percent of respondents plan to make more eco-friendly travelling choices in the next 12 months versus 65 percent that did so in the previous 12 months. In addition, 57 percent said that they often make eco-friendly travel decisions when considering accommodations, transportation and food and 50 percent also said they would spend more money to stay at an eco-friendly destination.
The survey also revealed that travelers’ top three eco-friendly practices include turning the light off when leaving the hotel room, recycling while in the hotel and participating in the hotel’s linen/towel re-use program.
