A Facial That Blows All Others Out of the Water
By NewBeauty Editors |
Many cultures throughout time have turned to the sea for it's mythic, healing properties. In the spa world, it's no different. Several forms of hydrotherapy are known to help with recovery of damage to the body and more recently, skin-care experts have turned to the ocean for some of the most powerful and restorative plants on the planet in order to revitalize the skin.
La Prairie, the Swiss luxury skin-care line—first famous for using caviar in their formulations—continues to tap the spirit and resources of the aquatic with a new facial that will blow you out of the water.
The 90-minute La Prairie Advanced Marine Biology Facial, uses highly concentrated, antioxidant-rich, sea-derived ingredients like algae, kelp and seaweed to restore and breathe new life into the skin on your face and even your body.
Now, it's not often that two editors get to review the same treatment, but this time we did and we couldn't be happier about it because the experience was one of the best that either of us have ever had. Not to mention, with facials, we both agree that the best ones aren't always relaxing. After all, we want our skin to get worked on during a facial—cleansed in and out, and potentially healing for the next two days. But with this one, we felt (and saw) immediate results, yet walked away in a state of bliss.
That could be because the La Prairie Spa at the Hotel Bel-Air (where we experienced the treatment) is a magical retreat on its own. The facilities are brand new and secluded, so it's the perfect, peaceful start to an equally wonderful treatment. The facial begins the moment you lay down on a water-filled hydro-mat that warms your body. As soothing steam caresses your face, your aesthetician assesses your skin, then cleanses it using products from the La Prairie Advanced Marine Biology Collection. She tops your face with a seaweed mask to purify it, then massages your hands and feet with hot stones. Just when you think the facial can't get any better, the finale is a refreshing face massage with cold stones that help soothe puffiness and calm inflammation. At the end, your skin is transformed into a glowing canvas that practically reflects light. We highly recommend it—whether you're a fan of the ocean or not.
