Shrink Your Body in 30 Minutes
By Anna Jimenez |
I don't know about you, but I will try just about anything—beauty product, treatment or trendy workout—that claims to effectively shrink my waistline or smooth out cellulite. From burning candles that claim to detox the body and de-dimple my rear to three-day juice fasts, I am not discerning when it comes to fat-fighting fads. I tell you this not to concede to the fact that I'm a sucker, but to allow you some insight into the psyche of a person that jumped at the opportunity to have electric currents shock my flabby thighs into submission.
The FatGirl Shrink treatment ($180) at Bliss Spa is this opportunity. It's the latest in bizarre treatments that claim to instantly lose some unwanted inches. And let me tell you, it works, albeit somewhat uncomfortably.
The treatment uses electricity, and some detoxifying seaweed solutions, to literally jolt unwanted water weight right out of you and instantly slim your body in less than an hour. It's somewhat uncomfortable (the shocks feel at first itchy and then increasingly annoying), but the session only lasts about half an hour. It's the perfect "I'm going to be in a bikini this weekend" or "this new dress needs to be slightly looser" treatment to cheat your way out of bloat. Now don't get me wrong, even I know it doesn't actually get rid of fat, but it does whittle my body down to a more desirable size. How do I know this? Good question.
Before each shock fest, the technician painstakingly measures your torso, waist, hips, thighs and even knees with measuring tape. Post treatment, you are re-measured in the same locations. To my amazement, I had lost eight inches all over my body. I repeat, eight inches. Granted, about three days later, I was back to my pre-FatGirl Shrink size, but for those few glorious days I felt great. It's safe to say I will be back for another shocking round of shrinkage come bikini time.
