Led Lights For Acne And Aging Skin

Recently, the incorporation of LED lights have increased in popularity in the spa world-especially in facials that treat specific conditions like acne and mature skin. “They can be a bit more ‘esoteric' and some of them use the lights with the philosophy that specific colors have specific benefits to the body, spirit and mind,” says Josie Feria, director of spa operations at Fountianbleau Lapis Spa in Miami. Here is how LED can be used at the spa and even at home.

In facials
LED light therapy is particularly good to achieve anti-acne and anti-aging results. “Blue light fights microbes on the skin's surface; red light works best for anti-aging benefits and helps stimulate the cells in the dermal layer to produce more collagen and elastin,” explains Diana Seo, owner of the B Spa Bar at the Soho Grand Hotel in New York.

In body treatments
According to Seo, in full-body treatments, LED blue light is most beneficial at preventing breakouts post-waxing by providing the skin with antibacterial properties. “The red light may also help to stimulate the cells to be more active, which helps break down fat and bring certain nutrients to the specific areas, so I use it with anti-cellulite treatments for an added benefit."

Can't get to the spa? LED light can also be used at home. Painlessly penetrating the skin with infrared LED light, the at-home ANSR: HALO ($299) device boosts collagen production while you lay around in your pajamas.
