Surprising New Source For Hair Transplant: Legs
By NewBeauty Staff |
Typically when hair is harvested for use in improving balding hairlines, it comes from other areas of the head, but a new report in the Archives of Dermatology found another option: leg hair.
Because the hair at the forehead is finer than hair in the back of the head, using the thicker hair could produce an unnatural look, the article explained. Hair on the legs is thinner, so it can be combined with thicker head hair, as well as chest or beard hair (with a method called U-graft) to harvest tens of thousands of hairs, which can help those suffering from major hair loss.
In trial runs, 75 to 80 percent of the transplanted leg hairs succeeded for several years afterwards. However, some experts say the hair on the legs can be too curly and grafting from the legs can leave markings that wouldn't be seen on the areas of the scalp where hair is harvested.
If you or your beau were suffering from hair loss, would you consider plucking some leg hairs to fill in your head?
