Does This Make My Eyelashes Look Fat?

Fat, skinny, curvy-no, I’m not describing how you look in a bikini, after all, we’ve never met. It’s actually a description of your mascara wand. The size and girth of the brush makes a big difference in what your lashes look like, or at least that’s the theory behind Eyeko mascara. A cult-favorite in London and set to debut in the states today, this UK import believes your lashes need the right wand or “wardrobe”, in order to achieve length, curl and volume.

From my trial of all three versions, Eyeko Skinny Brush Mascara, Eyeko Fat Brush Mascara, and Eyeko Curvy Brush Mascara ($19 each)-it’s the brush and the formula that make a difference, noticeable or not. And while we all want our eyelashes to look fat (as in thick and luscious), in the end, it’s the Skinny that makes the biggest impact.

With long and dispersed bristles, and conditioning vitamin B, the combination of the Skinny wand and formula really do add significant length to my lashes. With about three well-timed coats (you need to let the mascara dry completely before each coat or you’ll end up with a globby mess), my lashes went from meek to mighty. Not only does it pack a punch, it lasts all day without flaking or smudging-a bonus if you don’t mind using eye makeup remover at the end of the day. It is my favorite of the three, and I’m not alone in adoration. Reportedly, singer Adele uses it when she opts not to wear her signature false lashes.

Curvy comes in second and Fat, unfortunately, doesn’t live up to its name. The Curvy brush, meant to give curl to the lashes, does somewhat, but definitely doesn’t negate my handy eyelash curler. And the Fat brush is so fat, I can’t get it close enough to the root of my eyelashes, an important factor in my opinion, to add any real volume to the lashes.

All three formulas come in an easy, squeezey tube, so you can get every last swipe out of the packaging, and a plastic guard to keep mascara off your eyelid as you apply.

Skinny Brush Mascara launches today at Sephora and the Skinny and Curvy Brush Mascaras launch today as well at all Sephora in JC Penney stores.
