Can You Get More Cellulite From Weight-Loss?
By Susan Yara |
One of the many reasons why we want to lose weight-besides trying to fit into that old pair of jeans in our closet, is to get rid of the lumps and bumps that plague us in the form of cellulite. So you can imagine our dismay when we found that weight loss could lead to, gasp...more cellulite. According to a study published in the August 2006 issue of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, while 58 percent of women saw improvement in cellulite after losing weight, 31 percent found it became more pronounced.
But don't quit your diet just yet. Researchers believe skin elasticity is a factor. Those who saw the most improvement started with a higher body mass index (BMI) and lost the most weight, which then led them to lose the most thigh fat. Those who saw cellulite worsen had skin that was significantly less elastic after weight loss and didn't lose as much thigh fat (exactly where cellulite rears it's ugly face, among other places).
Luckily, that study is so 2006. While nearly 90 percent of women over 30 have cellulite, we now also have better technology. So you can still bet your dollar on your new workout because even if it doesn't lessen your cellulite, it will still help you feel and look healthier. Plus, you can always go out and purchase one of these handy firming creams:
