Our Favorite Hair Removal Options
By Shellie Terry Benson |
Dear body hair, can't you take a hint? We wax and shave you, smear you with chemicals, blast heated tools at you and even use lasers to try to rid ourselves of you. Yes, hair removal is one beauty problem that's been tacked in a seemingly endless variety of ways. Here are some of our all-time favorites:
Laser away hair
Alexandrite and diode lasers employ pulsating light waves to kill the base of the hair root in the follicle and drastically slow down hair growth. Laser hair removal is best for those with lighter skin and darker hair because the laser is more able to pick up the hair with that contrast. It takes about three sessions spaced a month apart, but then the hair is usually gone forever.
Bliss's Poetic Waxing Wax Strips for Face ($10 for 8 strips) come with peelable strips that are ideal for the brow and lip area (there's also a body version). You simply “heat” them up in your hand for 15 seconds, apply and strip off. They remove what you need to, with little pain. Plus, redness is kept to a minimum, so there's no obvious tell-tale signs as to what you've been up to.
Hair-free with heat
No!No! Hair ($270) uses heat to to remove hair and slow the rate of regrowth. You just slide the tip along your hairy parts, and voila! Follicle freedom! Try the accompanying no!no! Smooth After Treatment Cream ($50), made with peptides, green tea extract and Capislow, which is made with a desert plant extract that affects the hair growth process to reduce density and hair regrowth.
Pre-waxing numbing cream
BareEase & Cream Prep Kit for Ouchless Hair Removal ($25) was developed by a board-certified anesthesiologist who wanted to alleviate the discomfort associated with hair removal. The kit includes a numbing cream and a latex panty to be worn on the way to your hair removal session (keep it on for at least 30 minutes), whether it be waxing or laser hair removal. The kit comes in two sizes, S/M and M/L and promises ouchless hair removal.
