My Ultimate Relaxation
By Elise Minton Tabin |
Time to myself is few and far between these days, so any time I get close enough to a spa, and can tear myself away from “everyday life," I indulge! My most recent treat was at the uber chic Phillipe Starck-designed The Spa at Viceroy Miami. Perched high above the city-with floor-to-ceiling windows that overlook Key Biscayne-the 28,000-plus-square-foot full-service spa offers one of the best hot stone massages I've ever enjoyed.
After being escorted back to my treatment room, through a long unadorned hallway of marble that screams “clean” and “zen,” I was ready to unwind and relax with the Serenity Massage. The 90-minute treatment follows the principles of a typical stone massage where cookie-sized heated stones are strategically placed on the body-some are used to massage the body as well. All I know is that halfway through the treatment, when my therapist asked me to flip, I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror-supreme relaxation was definitely the look on my face!
Traditional massages are great, and always a reliable classic, but adding heat to the mix, and the smooth feeling of a rock against the skin, makes for a superior way to relax and unwind, any day of the week.
