The Solution To Cakey Powder
By Linda Walsh , Makeup Artist |
Beautiful makeup starts with a perfect canvas. Just like a painter first primes his canvas before applying color so should we. Smashbox Cosmetics is the industry leader in creating the perfect canvas. Because everything for Smashbox was originally created for photography-and now HD photography-their products are designed to make your skin look fantastic under close scrutiny. Everything they make was photographed and photographed again in the country's largest photography studio. With all of those lights and cameras there is no chance that something cakey or artificial looking will get by. In short, your skin is your canvas, and they are the perfect canvas professionals.
Smashbox's latest stroke of genius is Photo Set Finishing Powder. It is a setting powder that is totally translucent (no worrying about the right shade) and it has SPF 15! An effective sunblock in a powder? It's like we are living in the future. That is not even the best part. The texture is like heaven on earth. I have been wearing makeup for far longer than I would care to admit, and I'm going to let you in on a little secret: I had given up on powder. Gasp. I know.
Powder and I have had a love-hate relationship. Powder absorbs excess oils, and I don't have any excess oil to spare. Although I love a flawless complexion, my oily skin days are over and now matte and dry is the last thing I want. Anything that gets in the way of my dewy glow is out. As a makeup artist, I would use it all the time to set makeup, and give it that flawless finish, but, in my personal makeup bag, it was nowhere to be found.
Well, hold on to your hat, this powder feels like silk, and it's actually hydrating! It is ultra-light, and leaves your skin feeling incredibly smooth. If you have ever used the Smashbox primer you have somewhat of an idea of what I am talking about. They have somehow managed to re-create that feeling in a powder. My ultimate testimony for this powder is that I even use it under my eyes. So in summary, I am back on Team Powder but the MVP is definitely Smashbox Photo Set Finishing Powder.
