Although most breast augmentation patients are happy with their increased cleavage, a few may find that their breasts are unusually close together.
If you have breast implants and you feel that your breasts are too close, you may have a condition called symmastia, in which the implants have shifted and the individual implant pockets have become one.
Symmastia is rare, but it can be corrected through revisionary surgery. In these cases, the doctor needs to remove the implant, put in permanent sutures to hold the pocket closed, and replace the implant.
The most important thing to remember: choose a doctor with experience treating symmastia, and expect healing time after surgery to include many weeks without strenuous upper-body activity. You should also expect to wear a special garment or rolled-up bandage between your breasts as they heal.
