Shea Shampoo That Gives Hair Its Healthiest Shine
By Chelsea Greenwood |
We're all looking for ways to stretch a dollar these days, so I'm more than happy to share my latest frugal find for taking care of my hair.
After getting my hair professionally colored-lowlights, highlights and a gloss, totaling near $200-I was determined to make it last longer than normal. So perhaps it was a bit of kismet that I stumbled upon Alaffia's EveryDay Shea Moisturizing Shampoo at Whole Foods.
Based on a traditional Togolese recipe, it's free of synthetic fragrances, parabens and sodium lauryl sulfate, which is added to products like shampoo, bubble bath and soap to create a rich lather and is known to strip hair of both moisture and color. But, unlike many sulfate-free shampoos, this one provides a little lather and leaves hair feeling clean.
What this fair-trade certified formula does contain-instead of commonplace artificial ingredients-is all-natural, including aqueous shea leaf extract, traditional shea butter and mild plant-based surfactants.
Available in lavender and vanilla-mint fragrances, EveryDay Shea Moisturizing Shampoo leaves my hair hydrated and healthy, with plenty of shine. And, at $14, the 32-ounce bottle with pump top will last you a month or more (yes, even for those with long, full locks), and will noticeably prolong the life of your hair color-and your paycheck.
