Sweet And Salty Memories In A Scented Soy Candle

I grew up in New Jersey, but almost blasphemously, I rarely went, as we say, down the shore. The few times I did go, it was with close friends who considered themselves shore regulars-and for the record, a total of zero of them resembled anyone on MTV's Jersey Shore.

In hindsight, I wish I had gone far more often. The Florida beaches I now have access to are nothing like the Jersey ones my friends took me to, with the biggest difference being the lack of boardwalks, like Jenkinson's in Point Pleasant. What few memories I have of it are so vivid-visually, aurally, olfactorily-and I've never experienced anything else quite like it.

The closest I can come to reliving my few shore-set memories is when I get a whiff of one of the most distinct candles I've ever encountered: Boardwalk from the Acquiesse Portfolio Collection. This beautifully presented soy candle-I love the hefty 10-ounce version best-captures the best parts of its namesake inspiration.

Boardwalk is a sweet and savory blend of waffle cone, sand, sea, and driftwood-aspects of the actual experience that are agreeably, and perhaps unknowingly, ingrained in any visitor's impression of the boardwalk. Thankfully, some of the less-pleasant smells associated with this iconic walkway didn't make it into Aquiesse's amalgamation, but the candle is no less magical in its ability to bring me back.

I plan on giving the Boardwalk candle as a gift to one of the friends who took me down the shore with her a few times in our early teens. She has far more memories than I do, and I just know it will instantly send her mind swimming through each one.
