Treat Tooth Sensitivity With Smart At-Home Hygiene

It's extremely important to maintain good oral hygiene in an effort to ward off the sharp, stinging sensations associated with sensitivity.

Brushing with a soft-bristled toothbrush for two to three minutes after meals and before bed will help remove bacteria, preventing the gums from becoming inflamed and possibly receding. Just make sure you don't brush too hard, especially around the gums, as doing so can increase soreness by revealing layers of tooth close to the nerve.

You may find brushing with an electric toothbrush will prevent you from applying too much pressure, because the vibrations loosen plaque without the need to brush too hard.

Over-the-counter or prescription fluoride rinses can also help alleviate discomfort.
