Important Information For Dermatitis Patients

Recent news of the suggested connection between Elidel and various forms of cancer is alarming. Both Elidel and Protopic are non-steroidal, FDA-approved topical treatments for dermatitis and eczema. In pill form, Prograf (the active ingredient in these two creams) is used to treat organ-transplant rejection, and since 1994 has carried an FDA warning about the potential cancer connection.
If you are using Elidel or Protopic, talk to your dermatologist before you discontinue use. The best means to treat dermatitis or eczema is to identify the irritants that cause flare-ups and to avoid them. But in many cases, these skin problems cannot be fully controlled, and your dermatologist is the most qualified physician to evaluate your condition and recommend a treatment that is right for you.
