Oscar's Beauty Trends And Triumphs
By NewBeauty Editors |
The Oscars frequently mark the introduction of major beauty trends in Hollywood, and the 79th Academy Awards were no exception. Plenty of themes wove their way throughout A-listers' looks.
Although it's typically considered taboo to match your makeup to your clothing, a couple stars broke the rules. Jessica Biel's hot pink gown was accented by a bright pink stain on her lips. Portia de Rossi, making a simple, long ponytail look absolutely gorgeous, wore dark blue eyeshadow to match her indigo and black gown.
Also wearing indigo and black was Maggie Gyllenhaal, whose post-baby body is looking fantastic; but instead of matching, her makeup looked fresh yet bold, with glossy, red lips and rosy cheeks. In fact, rosy cheeks were popular on the red carpet, with Cate Blanchett and Beyoncé amongst the blushing beauties.
The biggest hair trend of the night was, by far, a deep side part with either loose or sculpted waves. Just look at how many attendees tried this style: Jennifer Lopez, Jennifer Hudson, Rinko Kikuchi, Rachel Weisz, Isla Fisher, Naomi Watts, Cameron Diaz-and those are just a few!
Our editor's pick for the best overall look goes to- well, it's a tie! Gwyneth Paltrow looked like a statuesque goddess with her perfectly balanced and glamorous makeup, her dreamily long hair, and how she was poured into her dusty peach Zac Posen dress. But we'd be fools not to applaud Helen Mirren, who took home the top honor. With her playfully loose bob, sultry yet sweet makeup, and absolutely phenomenal body, she looked sexier than most of the starlets half her age.
