Luscious Waves And Natural Lips Were The Must-Have Look On Grammy Night

The 49th annual Grammy Awards played out beautifully last night, thanks in part to the lovely faces, bodies and hair that graced the red carpet and stage.

Waves and curls, worn down or half-up, were the most prominent hairstyles of the night. Only Ciara and Vanessa Minnillo seemed to whip out the straightening iron before the ceremony. Corinne Bailey Rae proved the headband trend looks adorable even on short, naturally curly hair. But, unfortunately, not everyone got spirals right. Nelly Furtado looked a bit like Shirley Temple in desperate need of some frizz serum. And Mandy Moore, who's normally polished, looked like her wavy hair came straight off the pillow.

Glowing, tan shoulders were a common sight. Everyone from the Pussycat Dolls' Nicole Scherzinger to the normally fair-skinned Alyson Hannigan looked sun-kissed and gleaming in their strapless gowns. When asked how those glowing shoulders got so toned, Hannigan claimed a combination of pilates and pogo-sticking. Do we sense a new fitness trend?

For some stars, it was a night to reveal their darker side. The Dixie Chicks' lead singer, Natalie Maines, became the second Chick to go brunette, making her blue eyes pop even more than before. Hilary Duff has completed her transformation from bubbly blonde to sultry brunette, looking like a completely different person - and it's not a bad thing.

We got a lesson on how to wear - and how not to wear - blooms in your hair. For Beyoncé's performance, she wore a lovely flower off to one side. Nominee Imogen Heap, however, not only teased her hair into oblivion, but worked in an entire plant. It was a painful reminder that you don't always have to wear your uniqueness on your sleeve... or head. She was the obvious and ultimate don't of the night.

The biggest trend of night, by far, was natural and pale lips. Almost every starlet's pout was covered in subtly shiny nude or matte, light-pink lipcolor. Even Christina Aguilera started out the night with pale pink lips, though she applied her signature red for her tribute to James Brown.

Ironically, the girl who looked the most overall gorgeous is still months (or more) away from releasing her first album: Scarlett Johansson. There as a presenter, she looked absolutely perfect. Smooth, full, wavy hair in a thoroughly modern blonde; glossy, nude lips and just-smoky-enough eyes; and creamy skin from head to toe.
