Celebrities Love This Ballet-Inspired Skin Care Brand and We Do Too

Julia Stiles, Adam Rippon and Caroline Hirons are all obsessed with Jordan Samuel Skin, and after trying the line’s post-show glow essentials, we’re pretty smitten too. The line was created by Jordan Samuel Pacitti, a former ballet dancer turned aesthetician turned skin care guru who couldn’t find anything on the market that could really perform for the unique skin care needs of a dancer. The superlight formulations are about to launch at Cult Beauty this month and we caught up with brand founder Jordan Samuel to get the story behind his beloved product line.
NewBeauty: How did your 11-year career as a professional ballet dancer lead to the creation of this line?
Jordan Samuel Pacitti: I was lucky enough to not have many skin issues growing up. It wasn’t until I started dancing professionally and having to wear stage makeup every night during performances that my skin started to go crazy. I began to get regular facials as well as relying on the ballerinas for help with proper makeup removal, care, etc. I then found my second calling with skincare. And since the ballet was truly where this started, it became a no-brainer.
NB: Tell me about how you tinkered and tooled with the formulations. What was your experience like and what was most important to you about your line?
JSP: Over the history of the line I have worked with five different chemists to help me bring what is in my brain to life. For the most part, most of them got me and my vision right out of the gate. I have been clear with things I didn’t want and things I did want in the products and everyone respected that. The line must be efficacious, of great value and a pleasure to use—each formulation must check that box.
NB: As someone with sensitive skin, I’m so appreciative that you have options for reactive skin. Why was that important to you?
JSP: My whole life I never had sensitive skin, but when I went to esthetics school.... The daily peels and acids and microdermabrasion, etc. it all wreaked so much havoc on my skin. I then started to see the same issues with client after client. With the line we like to think of Jordan Samuel Skin as a “skin reset”—effective, but extremely gentle solutions to get that juicy glow back to your skin. I love actives, but YIKES we have overdone it so much now!
NB: I noticed little to no fragrance in your line, was that intentional?
JSP: Very intentional. One of our face products (a rinse-off product) uses aromatic extracts. Everything else for the face is fragrance-free. For our body products one has essential oils and one aromatic extracts. People can be extremely reactive to fragrances and essential oils and if they are using actives to begin with, that reaction can be tenfold. Part of the overall skin reset is simply not using fragrance in our products.
NB: What is the one “desert island” product from your line you think everyone should try?
JSP: Always such a hard question. But I think I'll continue to say the Hydrate Facial Serum. It’s oil and fragrance free, so most skin types can use this. It’s a humectant rich serum with aloe, glycerin, sodium hyaluronate, cucumber and tamarind. So many of us are chronically dehydrated from using too harsh of a cleanser, exfoliating too much, and using water that's too hot to cleanse our face. These things all add up and create surface dryness and dehydration. My Hydrate Facial Serum tackles that.
NB: What do you want to add to the line that isn’t here yet?
JSP: I have many tricks up my sleeve and lots of lovely launches coming out, but the two things that will be the trickiest that I can’t wait to add to the line are SPF and an exfoliator.
