When “The Body” endorses a body-sculpting treatment that doesn’t involve the gym or a personal trainer, you listen. Unlike many of us, however, she didn’t come across the treatment in hopes of toning up a stubborn area that could use some extra time at the gym—but the results she saw made her a believer.

Following a recent muscle injury, Macpherson found herself with inflamed tendinitis in both ankles, an injury she says eventually “ spread to my knees, which spread to my hips, which meant I couldn’t move,” the 55-year-old supermodel explained at a recent event for Cutera and her wellness brand, WelleCo. “I love yoga and I couldn’t even get to yoga—I was shuffling like an old lady.”

While the answer to the painful inflammation might seem simple to us, the wellness guru wasn’t interested in help from a prescription or invasive procedure. “I didn’t know what to do because I didn’t want to take any anti-inflammatories, I didn’t want to take any medicinals, I didn’t want to do any surgery,” she said. “After doing so much research, I found that the best product on the market for strengthening the body was TruSculpt Flex.”

TruSculpt Flex is the latest innovation from the aesthetic pioneers at Cutera, designed to build muscle via electrical stimulation. Each treatment is 45-minutes long and mimics the effects of 54,000 crunches. (Four sessions done within a two-week period are suggested for the full experience.) Macpherson’s treatment area of choice: her core. “That was my issue. I’m 56. I’m not going to be [wearing] a crop top and trying to show a six-pack—it’s not where I’m at. I wanted to feel stronger, and I wanted to feel supported.” Four treatments on her abdomen later, the supermodel describes the treatment as “the most intense pilates class you’ve ever done.”

“After four sessions in two weeks, [my] body was healing naturally to some extent, but my core became so strong that I was able to get in and start doing yoga and get the mobility that I needed so much to heal. I didn’t know how weak my core was because I have a flat stomach, thanks to the probiotics we have in the Super Elixir ($135) , but I didn’t realize how compromised my muscles were in my core.” The supermodel now has plans to treat her legs, next.

“Sometimes you need some intervention,” she continues. “The wonderful thing is that you feel so strong—and I’m all for people feeling strong. Strong body, strong spirit, strong mind. I love this program because you do feel strong. I came to it through a sports injury, but there are so many people who don’t know where to start on their wellness program, they’re embarrassed to get into the gym, or maybe they are ‘gym people’ that really want to fine tune their bodies. This is a fantastic product for all sorts of people, wherever you are in your own physical fitness or wellness journey.”
