Summer may have come to an unofficial end, but celebrity makeup artist Jo Baker is helping us hold on to the season a bit longer thanks to her gelato-inspired makeup magic.

As seen on Lucy Boynton this past weekend at the Venice Film Festival, Baker created what she calls a “gelato pastel day dream,” a tie dye–meets-rainbow punchy palette of (for lack of a better descriptor) eye-catching color that takes a cue from a tasty treat.

“I’m always taking inspiration from what I see around me on my travels,” Baker told us. “In Venice, you walk by and see hundreds of Gelateria with displays of amazing colored containers of gelato with gorgeous bright pastel and muted color tones. That was fresh in my head when I was thinking of how to create an unusual, yet soft and pretty look for Lucy’s Miu Miu event.”

The night before, Baker wanted something a little “sparkly like the Venice water,” she says. “That look was inspired by the Venetian masks and harlequin classic diamond pattern shapes; I created a half-diamond tear drop triangle in silver glitter and pewter gemstones for a simple, yet totally striking evening look.”

And as for the rest of us not currently globe-trotting, Baker says we can pull it off too. “I definitely think this kind of shadow application—using colors in a unpredictable way and really playing around in a less traditional way—is going to be a trend.”
