Melanie Griffith just updated fans on her skin cancer recovery this weekend by sharing a makeup-free selfie—complete with a bandaged nose—on her Instagram account.

“Bandaged again after having dermabrasion, the final step to fix the now removed basil cell skin cancer,” Griffith wrote on the post. “If any of you have it, get it fixed. If you lay in the sun, are exposed to lots of sun, be CAREFUL. Use sun screen. Get checked out by your Dermatologist. If you don’t have one, get one, or go to your nearest clinic and ask to be tested for it. More info to come!”

We’ll be sure to update this post once Griffith releases more information on her recovery.

Melanie Griffith has been in Hollywood for decades, which is why the actress understands just how cutthroat the industry can be. In fact, Griffith has even admitted to being afraid of losing her livelihood due to a surgery that could affect her physical appearance—even though the surgery could potentially be life-saving.

In an interview with InStyle, the 61-year-old discusses how she recently underwent a procedure to have skin cancer removed from her nose, which spurred a bit of fear in the star. “It’s a scary thing when you’re an actress and you depend on your face for work,” she said. “But I realize I have to put a Band-Aid on it, and it’s fine. I just look like a dork.”

But it’s not just physical imperfections that Griffith feels are scrutinized by Hollywood, she also feels that the industry is a harder place for women once they start to age. “It’s a different deal when you’re older,” Griffith explains. “And we’re old. I don’t mean it badly, and I don’t mean it like, ‘Oh, poor me,’ or anything like that. It’s just a different deal when you’re an older person. It’s different from being the hot stuff to being the old hot stuff.”

That being said, Griffith hopes to continue her career in acting, but this time, on Broadway. Claiming that it’s her dream to return to the stage, Griffith explains that “theater is kinder on a 60-year-old face.”

While it’s refreshing to hear a well-established actress recount exactly how harsh and shallow Hollywood can be, we’re happy to hear that Griffith has embraced her age. After all, the actress—who works out with a trainer every day to stay in shape—will always be an icon (regardless of her age!).
