As celebrities will often point out, most of them have internet trolls who spend an insane amount of time writing scathing, sometimes irrational comments or creating internet memes with hateful, hurtful messages. Ashley Graham is no stranger to the trolls commenting about her body or whether plus size models promote an unhealthy lifestyle and now she’s responding to one in particular who classifies models as either “real” or a “fat.”

The troll, who posts memes on Instagram with side-by-side photos of Graham and other Victoria’s Secret models like Miranda Kerr, Candice Swanepoel and Alessandra Ambrosio, labels the other models as “real model” and Graham as a “fat model.” The fat-shaming messages made their way to Graham and while she normally doesn’t respond to every negative comment, she wasn’t going to let this harmful comparison go unnoticed.
“I know I’m being a little petty by posting these stupid photos of somebody who wrote ‘real model’ and ‘fat model,’ but I will let you know NOTHING defines what a real model or fat or fake model is,” said the stunner as she sat in the hair and makeup chair getting ready for a photo shoot, as a “real” model does.
Graham had a message to share for all of her social media followers who believe, like she does, that success as a model doesn’t come from your size. “Your weight, your skin, your hair, your religious background, none of that determines whether you’re a real model or not,” she said emphatically. “So, all those girls out there who has dreams and hopes, keep fighting for them and don’t let all the losers on Instagram stop you.” And if there’s anyone you want to trust about how to be a “real” model in an industry known to be extremely exclusionary, it’s this boundary-breaking beauty.
