An Under-the-Radar Brand That Finally Repaired My Dry, Damaged Hair

I’m really bad to my hair, but it’s not totally my fault. I have thin, fine hair to begin with and slowly but surely, I started taking my once ombré, lighter color all the way up my head and ended up a totally processed blond. Couple that with my aversion to cutting it, and I ended up with really unhealthy-looking hair. I didn’t realize how bad it had gotten until I was sitting in the stylist’s chair with one side about an inch longer than the other. “Why is my hair shorter on one side?” I asked as she went to work cutting off my dead, dry, brittle ends. It turns out my hair was breaking off from over washing, too much heat styling and simply not cutting it often enough. It really wasn’t a lightbulb moment, I knew I was in trouble, but I didn’t know how to fix it.

Thankfully my stylist Nikki Copeland recommended two products from Eleni & Chris, a Scandinavian brand she is obsessed with. It made sense, Scandinavians have such beautiful skin and hair, why wouldn’t they have the best ingredients. The SensiMin Balancing Lotion ($30) smells like peppermint and is applied after cleansing to restore the scalp’s natural balance. Infused with Scandinavian Glacier Water sourced near the arctic circle, it’s high in oxygen levels. It cools and calms your scalp, but what I really like about it is that it worked on my hair like a liquid dry shampoo. Anyone with fine hair knows it eventually ends up looking greasy or oily, which makes it impossible to have second-day hair. This balancing lotion lets me skip a wash or two by extending my blowout. I immediately started using it regularly and cut washing my hair down to four or five times a week versus every single day. This was a major step in getting my hair back to its formerly healthy state.

The second product my stylist told me to incorporate into my routine is the Pure Treatment Oil ($39), which hair oil for someone with thin, fine hair is a major undertaking. Typically, I cringe at the thought of slathering my strands in oil as it normally weighs it down. Even if I only apply it to the ends, it eventually will somehow work its way up to the roots, making it look instantly greasy or wet. But this Pure Treatment Oil is different, it repairs and protects without oversaturating it. It’s made with cloudberry oil and a slew of other natural ingredients like jojoba oil, flaxseed oil, seabuckthorn fruit pulp oil and crumb abyssinica oil. Cloudberries, sometimes referred to as Scandinavian Gold, are harvested in the arctic and can withstand extremely cold temperatures, thus producing high amounts of vitamins and nutrients, making it rich in essential fatty acids, phytoesterols and antioxidants. These were exactly the strengthening, nourishing ingredients my strands desperately needed.

While I’m glad I didn’t have to pack up and move to another part of the world to get my hair in order, I am happy to have shiny, soft hair again that doesn’t break off into my brush as easily as it did before. Next time I sit in my stylist's chair, I won’t have a dry, lopsided 'do now that I have the right combination of products and healthier, happier hair.
