This Major Mascara Trend Enhances All Eye Colors

Mascara is a basic beauty essential. If I was on a deserted island and could only have one product, that would be it. (OK, I know SPF is the most important, but when your lashes are blond and barely there like mine, you develop a serious relationship with those tiny tubes of black goo.)
However, the latest mascara trend to blow up on social media isn't a new wand or a curl technology you've never heard of, it's just a different color other than black. Turns out, blue lashes are trending—Pinterest searches for the look have skyrocketed 234 percent since last year alone.

"From MAC to CoverGirl, it seems like every brand has launched a colored mascara this year!" says GLAMSQUAD director of artistry Kelli J. Bartlett. "Blue is the perfect color to enhance all eye colors and it gives a subtle statement effect."
So how can you pull it off without looking like your experimenting for Halloween? New York makeup artist Neil Scibelli says a good way to try it out is to pair it with a champagne eye shadow, which will flatter all skin tones. "Keeping your lids neutral will keep the focus on the pop of color on your lashes, and won't be overwhelming. You can also wear a blue mascara mixed into your black mascara, for a more subtle, midnight blue. For that look, start with the blue mascara and follow with your black as a topcoat. The blue will peek through for that extra spark."
Bartlett likes to pair blue mascara with a strong inner rim of eyeliner on the bottom lash line, for what she calls a "reverse smoky eye." To get the look, she says to smudge a black kohl eye pencil on your bottom lash line, or if you're feeling bold, opt for a pencil in a matching blue tone. "And if you really want to maximize the trend, apply several coats of the mascara from root to tip so your eyes really pop."
