Benefit's Annie Ford Danielson's Beauty Rituals

She may be privy to hundreds of beauty products and the best-kept beauty and makeup secrets, but what does a leader in the beauty industry really do all day long to keep herself looking and feeling her best? We caught up with Annie Ford Danielson, global beauty authority for Benefit Cosmetics, for the scoop.

6:15 a.m.
The first thing I do when I get out of bed is splash cold water on my face, which helps close my pores. I don’t use a cleanser in the morning, only at night, as I have dry, sensitive skin.

6:20 a.m.
I take two spoons out of the refrigerator and use the backs of them to rub in my eye cream—I keep them there at all times to help with under-eye puffiness.

7:00 a.m.
Taking good care of my skin is important to me. When I need a hydration boost, I moisturize my skin upside down—it increases circulation and helps with absorption. I lay on my bed and tilt my head all the way back while I massage moisturizer into my skin. It’s like performing a mini facial.

7:10 a.m.
I apply concealer to the outer corners of my eyes and around my nostrils and chin. Next comes Benefit’s ‘Hello Flawless!’ Oxygen Wow Liquid Foundation ($36). I only apply it up to my temples and the bridge of my nose—not on my forehead, as I feel that makeup shows up in my lines. I sweep Benefit Hoola Matte Bronzer ($29) all over my chest, neck and face (my forehead, too) with a Kabuki brush. I layer on mascara and some blush. Last, but not least, I do my brows with Benefit Gimme Brow ($24).

8:15 a.m.
When I get to work, I touch up my brows with a spoolie brush and seal those babies in with Benefit 24-HR Brow Setter ($24). I apply my go-to lip color, Bite ($26) in nectar, a peachy/nude shade. I take my hair out of the braid I slept in and spray Bumble and bumble Dryspun Finish spray ($31) for volume and texture.

10:00 a.m.
Before my next meeting, I touch up my makeup. I add a little more concealer under my eyes and Benefit POREfessional Face Primer ($30) on the outer corners of my eyes, applying it vertically so the product doesn’t fall into my lines. I also spritz Benefit Maybe Baby Perfume ($32) on to get in the zone of Jean and Jane (Benefit Cosmetics’ cofounders). This is my own little feel-good ritual that I do before big meetings.

2:10 p.m.
After lunch, I brush my teeth, spray on some dry shampoo and reapply lipstick and a little blush.

7:45 p.m.
I always shower at night, as it helps me end my day. In the shower, I use a round cotton pad and Tatcha One Step Camellia Cleansing Oil ($48) to remove my makeup. I wash and condition my hair, and while the conditioner is in my hair, I dry my face and use Kerstin Florian Correcting At-Home Professional Peel pads ($70) (every other day).

7:50 p.m.
I apply my favorite body lotion all over and spray Kerstin Florian Caviar Rose Damascena Mist ($45) on my face and chest. I treat my skin to SkinCeuticals Hydrating B5 Gel ($82). Then, I apply Benefit Browvo! Conditioning Primer ($28) on my brows to encourage a fuller, thicker look.

8:00 p.m.
I always sleep with my hair wet in a braid to give it texture and slight waves come morning.

In addition to the daily schedule:

ONCE A WEEK…I apply Kerstin Florian Rehydrating Algae Gel Masque ($40) for 30 minutes.

EVERY THREE WEEKS…I get a gel manicure. My go-to colors are OPI Samoan Sand and Cajun Shrimp.

ONCE A MONTH…I get a deep hydrating facial. I like to do this right before I fly back home from wherever I am around the world.

EVERY FOUR TO SIX WEEKS… I have my brows waxed and tinted and my upper lip waxed at the Benefit Fillmore Boutique. I get the baby hairs on my face threaded, which makes for smooth makeup application.

EVERY SIX MONTHS…I visit my dermatologist for Botox in my frown lines and a medical-grade facial. Hair isn’t a focal point for me—I get it cut about twice a year.
