You can tell a lot about someone based on their daily skin care routines, and what mine undoubtedly say about me is that I’m a full-blown morning person. Aside from the extra 20 minutes I allot to my morning skin routine versus my nighttime regimen, my vanity is also usually pretty sparse when it comes to night creams or overnight products (with the exception of makeup removers and a quick retinol to keep my pores under control). Needless to say, though many a dermatologist and aesthetician may take this up with me, it takes a whole lot for a nighttime product to actually make it into a constant nightly rotation in my apartment. So when a product does pass the test—after only a couple night of testing, nonetheless—it must be pretty good (not to mention unique enough to catch my attention). A beloved skin-perfecting offering from Elemis, the Biotec Skin Energising Night Cream ($136) isn’t exactly the newest product on the block, but I recently tried it for the first time and it stopped me in my tracks. Here’s why.

When you pick up the cream, the dual chambers within the bottle are probably what you’ll notice first. One side houses the Energizer—packed with calcium PCA and encapsulated zinc and copper—and the other the Cream—containing electrolytes and the trio of lactic, ferulic and succinic acids. When the formulas in each chamber are combined, they deliver a smoother, brighter, recharged complexion come morning (in fact, the cream is scientifically proven to increase cell energy by up to 27 percent). Simply put, this cream works to restore everything our lifestyle (think: sun damage, lack of sleep, poor diet) depletes from our skin and encourages new cell turnover, repair and protection while you snooze.

However, if you’re more of a morning person, talking up the science behind a night cream might not do it for you, but the fact that one pump (read: one second) is all it takes to “turn on” and boost the efficacy of the bottled active ingredients that would otherwise require multiple creams, serums and topical treatments to do the trick for each concern might. And even more good news for those with oily skin, the formula is so lightweight and never greasy, you’ll forget you even applied it seconds afterward. Come morning, you’ll see a more vibrant version of your usual complexion looking back in the mirror.

If you’re a night owl, you’re also in luck: The brand just released its Biotec Skin Energising Day Cream ($120) in two new formulas for both sensitive and combination skin types to make brighter, more energized skin possible for everyone, no matter your schedule.
