Want to Know If Your Skin Is Dehydrated? Here’s How to Tell featured image

Dealing with seriously dry and dehydrated skin can seem like a never-ending uphill battle. Just when you think you may have finally found some relief in the means of moisture, something else comes along that sets your skin off, leaving it tight, dry and possibly flaky once again. Not only does dehydrated skin feel rough to the touch, but it also makes all those little lines and wrinkles so much more pronounced—who wants that? And good luck getting your makeup to go on smooth and evenly.

But how can women (and men) tell if their skin is really dehydrated and in need of some serious help or if it’s just some temporary surface dryness? Luckily, the folks over at H2O+ have developed a super cool tool that actually measures the level of dehydration in the skin, and it’s easier to do than you may think.

All you have to do is sync up the MiLi Skin Moisture Meter ($59) with the complimenting MiLi Pure app and then select the area of your skin you want to test. Hold the metal probes on the device up to your skin and the machine will start to analyze your skin’s moisture content. Five seconds later you’ll have a reading as to how dry and dehydrated your skin is (or isn’t). While the brand suggests using H2O+ Oasis Hydrating Treatment ($45) or its Oasis Ultra Hydrating Cream ($49) for a boost of moisture, pretty much any effective moisturizer will do. However, it is recommended that you retest the area a few hours after application to see the current hydration level.
