Between tummy time and nap time, there’s now a new activity for adorable babies to partake in: spa time. Baby Spa in Perth, Australia (other franchise locations exist in the the U.K., Spain and South Africa) has created the perfect sanctuary for babies up to six months old to experience new ways of learning, derived from both the water and massage techniques.

Sessions are roughly one hour long and babies spend about 10 to 15 minutes of that time in the water, depending on their reaction at the first visit. With time, babies can work their way up to 30 minutes. They are safely placed in a BUBBY (Baby Spa’s patented floatation device), which leaves their arms and legs free to enjoy the feeling of the water.
After their brisk “swim,” comes a gentle, neonatal massage using grapeseed oil that involves stretching and muscle toning. According to Baby Spa, benefits of this combination therapy include strengthening of the baby’s musculature and skeletal system, stimulation of their circulatory system from the hydrostatic pressure of the water on their body and support of the baby’s sensory input. Moms and dads (even grandparents if they want to get in on the action) can observe close by—what we need next is a two-in-one spa where the parents get pampered while baby does (any takers?).
Babies can visit the spa as often as every day, but once a week is said to be beneficial. “We provide an oasis for your baby to benefit physically, cognitively, emotionally and socially,” says the Spa.
The closest thing to this idea in the U.S. (at the moment) is Float Baby, based in Houston. But after seeing how adorable these little guys are, we’re confident we’ll be seeing more pop up in the near future.
