Pastels, chalking and gray hues are making their way into salon chairs and onto our tresses, but for those with dark hair, trends like these don’t always work or show up as well as you’d like. Named “oil slick hair” because of its resemblance to the way oil looks when rain hits it, the iridescent tone combines greens and purples on top of dark hair for a quasi-futuristic but totally elegant effect. Perfect for those with naturally dark hair who don’t want to go through a total bleaching process, this look can be achieved without lightening the hair nearly as much as it would take to make other hues “stick.” Even better, while pastel shades tend to fade relatively quickly, these deeper colors will last for months on end without looking like there’s major growth near the roots—a total win-win.
