The Struggle to Find Your Perfect Nude Bra Is Finally Over
For the most part, women look for a bra that gives them good support or amps them up in size for perfect cleavage. While most of us would rather wear a pretty bra as opposed to something that looks like it belongs in grandma’s drawer, the idea of a bra that matches even the darkest of skin tones may actually be higher on the priority list than you ever thought it was. Sure, there are hundreds of different nude-colored bras and they definitely serve a purpose. But unfortunately for those who have darker skin colors, a nude bra doesn’t actually justify as nude for them.

The 2-year-old lingerie brand Nubian Skin was one of the first companies to launch a bra that came in a wide array of nude shades. Another company, Naja, followed suit with a range of different colors of nude to match its customers' skin tones. And now, there’s TruNude, which customizes bras and underwear to the exact color of its customers' skin tones using selfies.
Founder Danai Pointer says, “I was looking for something that would match my skin tone to wear under dresses. I went to a specialty store and I finally found bras that made me feel good, but when I wanted them in my skin tone they said, 'That’s not going to work.'"
Rather than settling for what she was told, Pointer took it upon herself to create a way to make bras that fit while matching a person’s specific skin tone. Rather than going into a store and trying on a dozen different bras in a dozen different colors, all you have to do is take a picture of your skin (in good lighting) and upload it to the TruNude app (it’s launching this May) to get your exact color code. From there, input your bra size and other measurements and a perfect match is created just for you. You can expect to pay $50 for a bralette and $99 for a T-shirt bra.
