EOS Lip Balms in Legal Trouble Again
By Liz Ritter, Executive Editor |
It seemed like the beauty world stopped for a few hours earlier this year when news of the EOS class-action suit hit.
According to the suit, filed by Rachael Cronin, one of the cute spherical balms (specifically, the “Summer Fruit” version) made her lips feel like “sandpaper,” which was followed by cracking on the edges and ultimately resulted in “severe blistering and rashes” around the surrounding skin by the next day. Her case was so bad, she claims, that she had to seek medical attention and the condition ended up lasting for 10 days.

At the time, there was a lot of speculation if this was just a one-time (albeit unfortunate) allergic reaction, but now, as first reported on by BuzzFeed News, it looks like EOS has agreed to offer compensation—not just to Cronin but to a total of 11 class action suits.
Under the terms of the settlement agreement obtained by BuzzFeed News, affected consumers are eligible “to receive either $75 for verified medical expenses, a $15 cash award, $20 worth of EOS products, or up to $4,000 depending on their injuries.”
While a judge still needs to sign off on the agreement, EOS has issued its own statement in response to the settlement: “We are pleased with this amicable resolution of the lawsuits brought against eos earlier this year. Eos makes safe and effective products and this settlement confirms that.”
