Last week we attended the Beauty International Trade Fair in Dusseldorf, Germany. With more than 1,250 exhibitors, the show is a central spot for new beauty launches from around the world, and, with over 25 countries being represented, it’s a playground for products, trends and ideas we’ve never seen (or even heard of) in the states. A sampling of some of our favorites:
Sofri Color Energy Cosmetics: Although Chi is a term that’s commonly used in the spa world, we’ve never seen it in cosmetics and it’s fairly rare in skin care. This German-based brand has a full range of naturally derived “Energy Cosmetics” that revolve around seven colors that each have a specific purpose to help balance your body and skin (if you battle blemishes, violet is the color that will help you, but, according to the company, you will be drawn to the shade your skin is best-suited for).
Ocóo Beauty Nectar: Beauty drinks are nothing new, but this one has one of the most impressive-and international-ingredient lists we’ve ever seen. It incorporates pomegranate from North Africa, acai from South America, aronia and cranberries from North America, and black currants and red grapes from Europe, all of which the company claims helps to boost collagen, help clear the skin and promote healthy hair growth. Even more interesting? The drink is sold in a number of dermatologist’s offices in Germany.
Dermionologie Facial: The high-tech look of this machine (think a clear bubble that goes over your head and covers it completely) looked more like a spacesuit than skin-care, but attendees were lining up by the dozens to test out this in-spa treatment. The company claims the patented vessel shoots out ions (there’s no aesthetician or facialist applying products) to provide the skin with more energy, which, in turn, boosts collagen, firms the skin, strengthens cellular connective tissues and improves whole-body health by improving circulation and the respiratory system. The result? Two testers we talked to said their skin felt firmer to the touch, to us, it looked like it was glowing.
