There’s a lot happening in the world of beauty. Rather than try to keep up with it all, let us help. Here is what you need to know today.
1. Saks Fifth Avenue has a new permanent display in their NYC flagship store. “The Fragrance Library” is stocked with fifty scents, including some previously not carried by the department store. Bustle reports that the Library was designed to help beauty connoisseurs navigate the sometimes-overwhelming process of choosing a new scent. Those looking for a new fragrance will be helped by a “fragrance librarian,” who will tailor the experience to the individual consumer.
2. New York City hairstylist, Mark Bustos, decided to use his talent for good by spending his day off giving free haircuts to the city’s homeless. See images of his clean-cut “clientele” at the Huffington Post.
3. Prabal Gurung, the fashion designer who has dressed such celebrities as Kate Middleton, Anne Hathaway and Jennifer Lawrence, is breaking into the beauty industry. According to Women’s Wear Daily, Gurung will work with MAC Cosmetics to release his first makeup line. The line will officially be available on Nov. 26 at MAC stores nation wide, but he will preview his color collection during his runway show on September 6.
4. The Sacramento Bee reports that California’s state Senate has refused to ban the use of plastic microbeads in cosmetics. The tiny exfoliators have been under fire lately because of the potential environmental harm they may cause. Advocates for banning microbeads plan to resubmit the bill before the senate adjourns.
