Every week, we take beauty questions from you, our wonderful readers, and reach out to experts to get them answered. This week, “Rachel” asked a question in response to our post, On a Quest for a More Beautiful Neck.
My issue is that I ended up gaining some fat in the neck and chin area after taking a steroid medication for a few months. I [haven’t taken] this medication for at least 7 years and was told my neck would go back to “normal.” It never did. Is there anyway that someone with my issue can qualify for lipo? I would love to have the look of having a neck again instead of hiding with scarves all the time and shying away from some photos.
The answer is yes. New York plastic surgeon Dr. Sharon Giese says Rachel is definitely a candidate for liposuction in the neck. “If she’s had it for seven years then I would say she should do it because its just going to get worse with age.”
The procedure she recommends is an internal ultrasound to melt the fat under the skin. The heat from the ultrasound stimulates collagen under the skin so you get maximum skin tightening. Afterwards, micro liposuction is used to remove the fat from the neck, as well as some fat from the jowl area. The end result is a slimmer neck that can make you look five years younger.
