How much time do you take to primp before work on Monday morning? How about Friday morning? There’s probably a huge difference in the time and effort you’re putting in at the beginning and end of the week, according to recent research by British retailer Debenhams.
Women apparently wake up on Mondays with renewed motivation to look their best, spending an average of 76 minutes getting ready. This time is split between bathing, doing hair, putting on makeup, and trying on a variety of outfits. The time is cut by almost half on Tuesdays; and by the time Friday rolls around, getting gussied up gets less than 20 minutes.
Men may not put in as much time as women initially do, but they follow the same pattern. Although they take almost half an hour to get ready on Mondays, grooming time drops down to 10 minutes by the middle of the week.
“It’s clear that most men can only pay attention to their appearance for a maximum of two days before opting for an acceptable level of dishevelment,” said Debenhams spokesman Ed Watson. “Women try to keep their dress standards higher for longer, but by the time Friday comes, they too have gone down a line of least resistance.”
“Make the most of looking at your work colleagues on a Monday morning, because that’s as good as they’re going to get.”
