Lip implants may have recently taken a backseat to less-invasive enhancing procedures, like fillers, but there are some women who desire long-lasting results when it comes to fuller lips.
Permanent lip implants fell to the wayside because the results were often unnatural looking.
However, a new type of implant, known as PermaLip, is, according to Eugene, OR, plastic surgeon Mark E. Jewell, MD, more anatomically correct than other implants and requires only minimally invasive surgery. “Although permanent implants are often considered, they seem to be prone to less-than-optimal outcomes and pose the potential for future removal,” says Dr. Jewell, who adds that most surgeons do not suggest having this procedure done. Implants pose a greater risk for complications, some of which are uncorrectable, than fillers.
