We’re skeptical here at NewBeauty. It’s our job not to blindly believe every bit of hype we hear. BB creams have been causing quite a stir lately as they slowly come over to the U.S. from eastern locales like South Korea, where they are already incredibly popular.
What exactly are BB creams? They are the all-in-one beauty solution, combining the most important components of skin care and cosmetics. It acts as a brightener, primer, concealer, moisturizer and UV protector all at once. With all that crammed into one tube, how effective could it possibly be? We had to consult with an expert.
According to Mandy Epley, master aesthetician at Jillian Wright Clinical Skin Spa, these creams are living up to their promises. “One has to find the right one that works best for their skin type to avoid excess shine, breakouts, etc,” she advises. However, the compelling component that really differentiates BB creams is the effective SPF. “As a rule of thumb in the skin-care world, it’s a must to have a separate SPF in the summer or if you live in climates where it’s “summer all year around.” It is never enough in any product that combines SPF. It must be the last application in your regimen before applying make-up, except with a BB cream because of its cover-up, illuminating and primer capabilities,” Epley says.
