I definitely look forward to my wonderful monthly facials, but they don’t have me wishing that I lived in another state. I only say this because on my last trip to New York City, I had the pleasure of experiencing the new Electro-Stim Lifting Facial at the N.V. Perricone M.D. flagship store. Now, for the first time since moving to Florida almost three years ago, I wish I lived in Manhattan again.
When I arrived at the shop on Madison and 67th, I was an electro-current virgin; but Dr. Perricone’s personal aesthetician, Estelle Gilboe, and the store’s brand-new Ultra machine took care of that. The 60-minute treatment started with ultrasound exfoliation. This involved gliding a vibrating metal wand over my face with the help of moisturizer. Yep-no abrasives, scratching, crystals or anything of the sort. Then, the other side of the exfoliating wand was used (along with the ultrasound) to help get the moisturizer deep into my skin. Finally, it was time for the micro-current probes, which looked a little scary and caused a somewhat strange sensation. It definitely didn’t hurt, but I wouldn’t say it was really relaxing either; but this is probably because the feeling was so new to me. When they were placed around my mouth, I got this strong metallic taste-but this dissipated as soon as the probes were moved. I asked Estelle if this was normal, and she reassured me it was. When the probes were placed around my eyes, I saw flashing lights, but strangely enough, the probes didn’t emit any. Estelle said that, too, was normal. As if this weren’t proof enough that something was happening, I knew it when I looked in the mirror. My features looked more contoured than before the facial, my skin was super-smooth and firm, firm, firm. I also had this lovely glow that I wished would last forever. I even had a business meeting right afterwards and I didn’t think twice about not putting any makeup back on. If that’s not enough to make up for the hustle and bustle of New York City life, I’m not sure what is.
My biggest question was how long the results would last, and Estelle told me two days (but that’s only because it was my first treatment, and under normal circumstances a series of six is recommended, at a total of $1,250). Apparently repeated treatments “train” the facial muscles so results last longer after each visit (which should ideally be scheduled once a month) and you can even track your progress with VISIA Complexion Analysis.
