Although it’s touted as one of the best ways to stave off the effects of time, green tea should be added to your list of things to avoid before surgery and injectable treatments.
According to recent research, it may interfere with blood clotting, leading to bruising and bleeding, especially in those who drink large quantities.
One study on animals has shown that the anti-aging ingredient in green tea, EGCG, can interfere with the functioning of platelets, which play a vital role in blood clotting. However, another study looking at people who drank about 10 cups of green tea each day for four weeks showed no adverse effects.
In the name of safety, err on the side of caution and cut back on green tea before any procedure.
