If you think the current prevalence of obesity in America is scary now, just wait a few years.
New research by John Hopkins University shows that by 2015, 75% of Americans will be overweight, 41% being considered obese. They used BMI standards and reviewed 20 previously published studies about weight and behavior to reach this prediction.
Some portions of the population already reflect these numbers. Half of all black women over 40 years old are considered obese. However, studies show that every group is getting steadily heavier.
“Obesity is likely to continue to increase,” says researcher May Beydoun, “and if nothing is done, it will soon become the leading preventable cause of death in the United States.”
